Master Killer: The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin (1978) Part 11

Set in Manchu-controlled China, the film centers on the young Liu Yingde (Gordon Liu), the teenage son of a humble seafood shop owner. During the day, Liu attends Chong Wen College under the tutelage of Mr. Ho (Wai Wang), who secretly moonlights as a revolutionary against the Qin Empire. Upon viewing the dead bodies of several rebels (Lau Kar-Wing among them), Liu decides that it’s high time he put his schooling to use and fight back against the imperious Manchu forces. Along with several of his friends, Liu joins the rebellion and agrees to smuggle secret documents to aid the resistance fighters. They begin by using the family fish market as a front for their covert activities, but their not-so-brilliant subterfuge is ultimately uncovered. Liu’s friends, family, and teacher all end up paying the ultimate price, each perishing at the hands of the merciless Manchu warlords, Tang San-Yao and General Tien Ta (Wilson Tong and Lo Lieh respectively). Liu’s only chance at survival is to flee to the fabled Shaolin Temple in the hopes that they will accept him as a pupil. But revenge isn’t Liu’s only motivation for learning kung fu. In addition to avenging his loved ones, he also plans to instruct the common folk in the ways of Shaolin, so they can properly defend themselves against the tyrannous Manchu aggressors. But as Liu soon discovers, you’ve got to learn to crawl before you learn to kick ass. Wounded and weary from fleeing his Manchu pursuers, can Liu make it to the temple

    gr8 idea

  2. Ba5im says:

It was authentic BEFORE they went commercial…

They used to be about passion, no its money.

  3. redtortoise76 says:

    what makes you say that?

  4. Ba5im says:

As a former student at the Tufnell Parks Shaolin Temple, I noticed a transition over the years. Not only were we being tought on various occasions by experiened but unqaulified students in classes but the lack of guidence from the real teachers.

The majority of students, (with a qualified level of skill) including myself were cornered away from key events, involvement in competition and various other activities while a selected group were given the guidence to excell.

  5. Ba5im says:

They care about their products more as oppose to their reason for their financial success – the students.

Many students, including myself never recieved the essential help, guidence and oppotunities the selected students in this video were given, even though alot of us were qualified (by exam) with an eqaul level of skill.

It sucks to hear that, but then again Shaolin in general has a reputation for being money hungry and for the lack of ethics. I don’t know why but those teachings just don’t seem to stick to these monks.
What martial art are you studying nowadays?

  7. Ba5im says:

I’m currently in professional boxing, but have learned alot from Shaolin nevertheless.

    How about yourself?

  8. Badass01 says:

I have to disagree with you mate. I’m a current student there and have studied under both Shifu Yanzi and Shifu Yanlei and their dedication to the students is second to none.

Apart from them, there is Shifu Hengjin teaching who is 35th generation and even he is excellent.

I dont understand this thing you have about being pushed aside and other students favoured?

  9. Badass01 says:

    …contd

There are a set number of techniques taught and shifu has always stipulated that students need to practice these moves and others in their own time to see development. If a certain student has put more work in than another then of course shifu sees that this person is dedicated to learning gong fu and will help them develop.

I have found that if you work hard then Shifu will help you. Ultimately there is only so much they teach, the rest is up to you.

I thought that when they started doing the tours. etc..

Ba5im is right. Tufnell Park “is” fake. They’re not strong Buddhists & they do teach their selected folks – look at the shorts! They’re into Kickboxing man! Don’t get me wrong – they do know traditional Shaolin but they keep it for their folks. I can do High powered Di Tang Shaolin Gong Fu flipping & shit but when I went there, they said – we don’t do Gymnastic Gong Fu here so I walked out. Realizing how fake they are.

  12. Wushurichard says:

    I agree sadly here

  13. MrJesus666 says:

they teach xanda most likly. it’s a effective fighting style based on shaolin gong fu, it’s still very must a spirtitual martial art. it’s just more striking in it, but don’t quote me on that they might not teach xanda..

  14. shao9x9 says:

The so called selected students have been training with Shifu Yanzi for around 10 years. All of the people who are talking shit on here were probably there for about 10 mins and expect to be treated as though they deserve the world. Earn your right like everyone else who you say is being given preferential treatment. Shifu obviously saw in your character that you weren’t ready and from your comments it looks like he was right.

  15. nagi85 says:

    Basics, basics, basics.

  16. robertgaudlitz says:

mrjesus666 is probably right, looks like sanda to me, too. that is not really kickboxing, more like a kickboxing-like competition-style based on quanfa.

  17. baaasil says:

bro, sometimes u need to take b.s. from the “master’ and try to sieve it, the problem is cost effectiveness,

still the selectionism cannot be fair to paying students, but they need to be selective of potential talents, can’t the students plead, petition or strike or somthing…

good job thou hope the boxing is going good, think like mike tyson, with caution obviously :)

  18. AryaSravaka says:
